Our Story

At Nami began with a love story—both for people and for the art of the handmade. While living in New York, Gayatri met her husband, whose warmth and creativity mirrored her own. On a visit to his hometown of Ramgarh in Rajasthan, she was captivated by the artisans crafting intricate handwork with extraordinary skill. Each piece they created was a reflection of tradition, precision, and passion—a legacy passed down through generations. This moment was transformative. Gayatri saw the immense value of these artisans’ creations and felt a deep desire to preserve and showcase their craft. Their ability to turn raw materials into timeless art resonated with her own creative journey, which began at a young age. As a teenager, Gayatri designed jewelry that sold out at exhibitions. Later, while working in finance in New York, she began designing clothing as a creative outlet. Today, she brings that same passion to designing bespoke home interiors for friends.

The Beginning of Nami

With a keen eye for design and a love for the unique, Gayatri founded Nami to celebrate and share the beauty of handcrafted artistry. Combining her global perspective with her creative instincts, she collaborates with skilled artisans to bring bespoke, one-of-a-kind designs to life. Each piece is thoughtfully created to blend the timeless techniques of the past with contemporary elegance, ensuring that every product tells a story and becomes a cherished addition to the homes and lives of those who own it. At Nami, Gayatri curates collections that are a perfect marriage of artistry and individuality. From textiles and ceramics to apparel and home goods, each item reflects her unwavering commitment to design excellence and her dedication to honoring the hands that craft them.

The Inspiration Behind Nami

At Nami, every creation is rooted in a passion for craftsmanship and a love for global artistry. The brand draws its inspiration from Gayatri’s journey across cultures—from the vibrant handwoven textiles of India, like Ikat and Benarasi, to the soft, luxurious touch of Peruvian wool; from the intricate batik patterns of Indonesia and the delicate shibori dyeing of Japan to the elegant hand embroidery of Mexico, Vietnam, and India, from handpainted silk to Aari embridery and the timeless beauty of French lacework. During her travels and experiences, Gayatri discovered not only the beauty of these traditional crafts but also the stories and heritage behind them. She was inspired by the dedication of artisans who transform raw materials into timeless works of art, preserving techniques passed down through generations. With a deep appreciation for the nuances of each craft, Gayatri envisioned Nami as a platform to celebrate these traditions and bring them to a global audience. Each piece reflects her commitment to authenticity, blending age-old techniques with contemporary design to create products that are both meaningful and elegant. Nami isn’t just about objects—it’s about stories, heritage, and the artistry of skilled hands coming together to create something truly unique.
